"Rock 'N' Roll Party"
Welcome to Rydell High Sock Hop!
Three birthday celebrations for my dad, my boyfriend and me. All of my guests had a blast going back in time to the 50's. I made my invitations out of construction paper in black, and I wrote in pink glitter "Rock 'N' Roll", filled in the front with stickers and themed confetti. The inside of the invitations had all of the information about the time, place and date of the party. Also, it was written that each guest had to come dressed up as a person from the 1950's. Everyone came dressed up, and they looked fabulous and funny too. Some came like T-Birds, Pink Ladies, jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, etc.
The decorations were great! I bought cardboard cut-outs of images of the fifties. I made some construction paper music notes and hung them from the ceiling of the party room with clear string (to give the impression that they were floating in the air). Centerpieces were cardboard records and ice cream. I had balloons, themed tablecovers, confetti and bazooka gum all over the tables. I had give-aways of sunglasses, dice keychains, combs for the guys and lipsticks in red for the girls all over the tables. I also had prizes for the games. I had funny and nostalgic prizes. For instance, novelties and toys from the 50's. I even had a prop stop for picture-taking, where I put a table all decorated like the ones in the diners and in the center I had a big ice cream cardboard cut-out that I colored myself. It was for a funny picture so that looked like the ice cream is bigger than the guest.
For food, I had hot dogs, pizza, fries, mini sandwiches, ice cream, cake, salad, pink lemonade and other drinks, etc. Games were a blast because I had many games such as hula hoop, dance, singing, best couple contest, and pass the poodle (use a stuffed poodle for passing around like hot potato but with a twist - the guests could not use their hands). We also had an ice cream contest (who ate the three or four scoop ice cream cone first won).
Overall this is one of the best "Three Birthdays" celebrations I have created. That day was a time to laugh and smile. I'll never forget it, and neither will my guests, with the pictures that I mailed a few days later. This is not the end for me. There are more celebrations to come and more ideas for me to share with the world. - Melissa in Haileah, Florida
